Two El Paso Men Caught in Las Cruces Stealing Car, Are Arrested
LAS CRUCES— Two El Paso men were arrested in Las Cruces after they were caught stealing a car.
Las Cruces police said Gumaro Herrera, 23, of the 9100 block of Northwich Way, and Fernando Gonzalez Bustamante, 24, of the 9400 block of Ariel Rico, were seen by a LCPD officer load a Ford Taurus station wagon onto a flatbed trailer pulled by a black Dodge Ram pickup truck. The Dodge truck matched the description of a truck used to steal at least four vehicles since the beginning of the month.
The officer called for backup and stopped the pickup on Boutz Rd. west of Valley Dr.
LCPD officers learned the station wagon on the trailer was stolen, although its owner had not yet noticed that it was missing.
Herrera and Bustamante are charged with one count each of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and conspiracy. Both are being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $10,000 each.
It is still unknown if Herrera and Bustamante are responsible for any other vehicle thefts in or around Las Cruces.
The investigation continues and additional charges are possible.
