EL PASO- Two El Paso Public Library branches have been named recipients of a prestigious summer reading program grant.

The Dorris Van Doren branch and the Esperanza Acosta Moreno Branch will both receive the Young Adult Library Services Association's grant of $1000.

The grant, designed to offer inventive summer reading programs to community teens, is funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The Dorris Van Doren branch plans to use part of the money to run a trial Facebook ad in efforts to reach more teens online as well as to purchase additional graphic novels and Spanish Young Adult fiction. The Esperanza Acosta Moreno branch plans to use the grant to fund software, cameras, books, and incentives to help teens learn about video production.

The branches hope to reach out to more teens and provide activities and books for them throughout the summer. The library also plans on utilizing Facebook to interact with teens, suggest books, and host online book discussion chats to connect teens throughout the community with each other.

To participate in the El Paso Public Library’s teen summer reading program, register at your nearest library branch from June 4-July 23, 2011. For more info, visit any library, facebook.com/libraryteenhangout, or call 915-543-5495.
