It's a security measure that's caused controversy. Now the El Paso International Airport has its first full body scanner. Officials from the TSA demonstrated the advanced imaging technology to the media today.
The device can see through clothes for hidden weapons. The TSA says there are strict privacy protections in place.
"There are many filters involved. There are separations of people doing the searching, people who are doing the monitoring," said Federal Transportation Security Director Mark Momsen. "There is no way one person can see another person during or after the screening. There are many layers to make sure your privacy is protected and our officers are protected."
The technology is optional for all passengers. We're told the scanner will be used soon in El Paso but a specific date has not been given.
