EL PASO-It seems the days are numbered at the bar known as the Three Legged Monkey.
The owner, Michael Armstrong is worried for his 30 plus employees. That's because Armstrong's landlord, Patriot Place Ltd.- the owners of Hawkins Plaza, is negotiating a sale of the entire property to the City of El Paso for 2.9 million dollars.
The deal could make the city the new landlord for all of the tenants at Hawkins Plaza. and details in the sale indicate an eviction for "undesirable tenants"... tenants like the Three Legged Monkey.
The settlemnet agreememnt between the City and Patriot is in the middle of negotiations and no comment has been made by the city, but Armstrong said,
" We've been waiting for the opportunity to challenge the collusion, corruption and cronyism involved between the City of El Paso and Hawkins Plaza. We are looking forward to our day in court."
The desirable tenants at Hawkins Plaza will remain, but even some of them haven't had many problems with the bar next door and they wonder what's a better neighbor to have at Hawkins Plaza... a small, local bar business or one of those corporate chain franchises.
