EL PASO - If you passed by El Paso City Hall today, you couldn't miss it. The lines to pay property taxes were out the door.
"I waited in line for about an hour and a half," said Alferdo Escalante.
He was one of thousands of people who waited until the very last minute to pay their property taxes.
“It's going to take a long time," said Maria Garcia as she waited in line.
But to these folks it was well worth the wait.
"As you see today is the last day to pay our taxes so we don't want to pay any penalties,”said Escalante.
Extra security was even on hand to manage the crowds. One security guard we ran into could hardly get a break.
"It's last minute people paying their taxes who have a bunch of questions like where am I supposed to go," said Sean Duckett.
So why wait until the last minute to pay?
Most people we spoke with said it was a matter of money.
"Christmas came up and I had some expenses and the economy's not so good,” said Escalante.
You have until 6:00 p.m. to make a payment.
