Teen Arrested for Las Cruces Drive-By Shooting
LAS CRUCES- Police have arrested a 17-year-old believed to be responsible for Wednesday morning’s drive-by shooting near a busy intersection.
Mario R. Calvillo, 17, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and is charged with one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle.
Las Cruces Police detectives learned that on Wednesday morning Calvillo was the front-seat passenger in a gold-colored GMC Yukon that was being driven by 18-year-old Gabriel Anthony Polanco. At around 9 a.m. they spotted a 19-year-old man who had an ongoing dispute with Calvillo.
As the 19-year-old arrived at work, Calvillo leaned out the GMC Yukon’s window and began yelling obscenities. Calvillo then pulled out a black handgun and fired at least one round toward the victim.
No injuries were reported.
Calvillo, Polanco and another passenger then fled in the vehicle westbound on Lohman Avenue while the victim ran into the business. Police were called to investigate and subsequently detained Calvillo on Wednesday following a traffic stop.
Calvillo is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Polanco was located at his residence and taken into custody on a misdemeanor warrant from Magistrate Court.
