The jury trial is scheduled to start Wednesday afternoon for the Horizon City teen accused of creating a cancer foundation and scamming people out of thousands of dollars.

Angie Gomez raised about $17,000 for a foundation called Achieve the Dream after she told her community that she only had six months to live.

Police say the foundation Gomez started took money from people who thought they were donating to a girl dying from leukemia.

The problem was Angie Gomez never had the disease or any other type of cancer.

It was a local youth group leader who let Gomez live with her who called police after she found out that none of the medications Angie was taking were actually for treating cancer.

The trial starts at 2:30 p.m. at the El Paso County Courthouse. Watch Newschannel 9 at 5:00 p.m. for the latest.

Hope she serves a long time in prison, she deserves it. Its people like her that make it hard for the community to believe legit charities that are trying to do the right thing and help people. Nowadays you cant trust anyone, like this degenerate!
