Suicidal Man Saved By Las Cruces Hostage Negotiation Team

LAS CRUCES- A suicidal man threatened to shoot himself inside of a Las Cruces home on Thursday night.

The Las Cruces Police Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team arrived to a home on Montana Avenue where a man has fired a shotgun into a mattress and threatened to shoot himself in the head.

Police say the man had placed the barrel of the rifle in his mouth and threatened to pull the trigger. A member of LCPD’s Hostage Negotiation Team arrived and calmed the man, who surrendered peacefully.

Besides the one round the man fired inside the home, no other shots were fired and no injuries were reported. The man was charged with one count of negligent use of a firearm, a misdemeanor. Officers located the rifle inside the home and secured it into evidence.

The Las Cruces Police Department has 11 members in its Hostage Negotiation Team.
