Socorro ISD Hopes to Give Away Car for Perfect Attendance
SOCORRO- Thousands of students in the Socorro Independent School District headed back to school today.
Superintendent Xavier de la Torre is setting big goals for his students, this year. The district is encouraging students to aim for perfect attendance and they're adding some big incentives for students to stay in school.
If the district increases their attendance by half a percent, they could get an extra $1,000,000. Right now, the district is also working with a local car dealership that will provide a new ride as an incentive for perfect attendance.
"After every month if you have perfect attendance you get the equivalent of Willy Wonka's golden ticket that goes into a raffle and whether you have ten of those or six of those or one of these your name is in the raffle and you are in the running to potentially win this vehicle," says Superintendent Xavier de la Torre.
De la Torre says the extra money would go towards extra supplies for students, and more iPads for the classrooms.
