A northeast El Paso elementary school has gotten a makeover but some neighbors aren't very happy with the result.

Two weeks ago, Whitaker Elementary School received a fresh coat of yellow paint. Neighbors say the school has always been painted a beige color still seen on some buildings.

And they've never had a problem with it until now.

i have a frien that has a kid that goes there an really i like it it says hey im a school for elementary kids its a great idea regardless of how bright or even the color kids need that. they all like the bright colors.

I heard the controversy concerning whitaker elementary.I dont know what the problem is with todays school colors.I dont know if these people have just moved to this community within the last 5 years or so but when they built this school its colors were fine. Now they have changed the colors and there is nothing wrong with them this way either. It dont matter where you are from, be it here, Alameda,Lower valley, or china for that matter.Either way if you dont like it where suglasses leave.

I have children in this school and I believed the pricipal Elvia Rodriguez (that in fact she was kicked out of two schools already)did not ask anybody for our opinion, that paint was bought with the money that we pay in taxes. We have the right to know about the BIG changes as this one (well at least the parents and the castner H. community).

I don't mind the color so much... My Niece goes there... and she LOVES it... it makes the school seem more fun... bright colors stimulate children anyway so... when you drive by... just wear sunglasses like i do

Bill Medrano was upset by the school's new color & stated it looked like it belonged in Juarez or on Alameda St. I take offense to his derogatory tone when referring to Alameda St. Rather than being so concerned by the message the color is sending about his neighborhood, he should focus inward & be more concerned by what his own comments are saying about his neighborhood & its neighborhood association. It seems he was never taught the life lesson that it's what's on the inside that counts.

The color was only picked for the pencil itself, not for the whole school it was a mistake. Since the paint was already bought and paid for there was nothing that could have been done about it. IT WAS A MISTAKE!!! The homeowners around the school need to realize that. I am a homeowner in the area also with kids that attend the school, it's not that bad. Unless the other homeowners are going to pay for it to be fixed there is nothing to be done about it .
