LAS CRUCES - A man who allegedly threw a rock at the back window of his girlfriend's car was arrested on child abuse charges because their infant child was in the back seat.

Francisco A. Campa, 35, is charged with one count each of intentional child abuse and criminal damage to property.

Las Cruces Police said that Campa and his 34-year-old girlfriend had been arguing in front of her home on Oakridge Drive Tuesday morning. When she started driving away with their infant child in the back seat, Campa threw a rock that smashed through the rear window of the car.

Investigators said shards of glass were strewn throughout the back seat of the woman’s vehicle but her child was not injured.

Detectives learned that Campa knew his child was in the car.

Campa was arrested on Tuesday and is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
