While Congress and President Obama continue to debate health care reform we found a group working hard to help keep low income kids and adults healthier. It's the Project Vida Dental Clinic in Northeast El Paso.
The dental clinic opened last October to serve the working poor and those without insurance who can't afford dental care. They've helped more than 2000 people. The clinic offers discounts from 40 to 60 percent which are figured based on family size and income. Project Vida is funded by the Presbyterian Church, the United Way and state and federal grants.
The dental clinic is just the latest effort. Project Vida also has regular health clinics with doctors and nurses. For more information go to: http://www.projectvidaelpaso.org/community_program_calendar.html
