LAS CRUCES -- Police say a teenage girl fought off a man who tried to kidnap her.

22-year-old old Enrique Vasquez is charged with aggravated indecent exposure and attempted kidnapping. Attempted kidnapping, because the 17-year-old girl police say he tried to kidnap put up quite the fight. Police say it all started when the teen was walking near her home on Hadley Avenue in Las Cruces Sunday evening.

"She noticed a red truck drive by and the guy inside was looking at her. The truck made a few U-turns and came back along side her," said Dan Trujillo, the spokesperson for the Las Cruces Police Department.

Investigators say Vasquez exposed his genitals to her and asked her to get into the truck. When she said no, police say he got out of his truck and tried to force her inside. But police say the teen fought back, punching him several times in the throat.

“I think he had enough so he decided to drive off," said Trujillo.

The teen then ran to her house and told her mom what happened. Not long after, a New Mexico State Police officer recognized Vasquez's truck a few streets away and he was arrested. It's all thanks to one quick thinking and brave teenager who wasn't afraid to throw a couple punches.

"This girl in this case did the right thing. She put up a fight and didn't allow herself to be taken because we don't know what would have happened."
