A 58 year old man is dead, shot by an Otero County sheriff's deputy during a confrontation this morning in Chaparral.
Neighbors tell us Apolonio Torres was walking to the store for cigarettes but went into a yard where a four year old girl and her baby cousin were playing. The woman in the house said Torres tried to take the children so she called the sheriff's office. The deputy confronted Mr. Torres, there was some sort of scuffle and Mr. Torres was shot to death.
The New Mexico State Police are investigating. Whenever they have a statement we'll tell you what it is.
