Northeast El Paso Power Outage

UPDATE: 5:20: UPDATE: El Paso Electric tells us mylar balloons are to blame for today's power outage. The balloons were caught on the power lines.

 

UPDATE: 4:40- Power has been restored, but EPE does not know the cause of the outage yet.

EL PASO- Approximately 4,000 customers are experiencing a power outage in Northeast El Paso.

The affected area is around the Rich Beem and Montana area.

No word on what caused the power outage yet. El Paso Electric is working on restoring the power.

So these "mylar balloons" were able to take down 4k customers?

These balloons are the ones that are sold by any gorcery store. They usuallly have print and foil/silver backing to them. So why wasn't power re-routed? Surge protector on power lines to minimize blackout to a block radius?

Was the proper equipment in place and maintained?

These are some questions I would like to see answered because these blackouts are happening way to often.
