EL PASO- Police have declared it “no refusal weekend” in El Paso.
That means that if an officer thinks you're drunk, and you refuse a breath test, a judge will be on stand-by to sign a warrant to get a sample of your blood. Police are using the measure to curb drunk driving on El Paso streets. The blood sample could then be used in court to prove, without a doubt, that you were drunk.

“In order, I think, to guard against the breath test refusals is these blood draw weekends, and that way we can get your blood and if you want to refuse your breath test then we are going to try and determine your level of intoxication through a blood draw,” says Jaime Esparza, District Attorney.

District Attorney Jaime Esparza says refusing to take a breath test should be a crime in and of itself.
