New Restaurant Opens in Union Plaza

EL PASO- A new restaurant in Union Plaza Downtown is bringing European flare to the Sun City.
And its owners have bigger plans for the eatery.

La Tabla, which opened its doors a few weeks ago, is the latest restaurant addition in Union Plaza Downtown.  "It’s a Spanish-influenced menu so a lot of the ingredients that we use are imported from Spain with a European twist," said co-owner and chef Norbert Portillo.

Portillo says the style of eating is European as well, having small plates to share with your table.  "We don't want it to be too fussy, a place where people can just come, have a drink, eat a lot, eat a little, relax and enjoy the ambiance," said Portillo.

Enrique Corral tried out La Tabla for the first time after a friend recommended it.  "The pork with the white beans and chorizo is very delicious," said Corral.

The restaurant offers live music certain days of the week and they're hoping to open at later hours and offer an alternative to the Union Plaza crowd.  “If they don't want to go to a dance club, they can come here and still enjoy themselves," said Portillo.

La Tabla is located at 115 South Durango, Suite D. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to midnight and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to midnight.
