EL PASO - P.A.W.S., a new adoption program, will assist inmates in attaining vocational kennel training and provide more opportunities for unwanted, homeless pets to be adopted.

Sheriff Wiles, in collaboration with the El Paso Humane Society and the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, will announce more about PAWS, or Pets Advancing Wellness and Success, at a press conference Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 12501 Montana behind the Jail Annex.

In the program, volunteer inmates receive kennel management experience and are responsible for teaching dogs to obey basic commands. All dogs will be micro-chipped, spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

The Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputies will be provided with bulletproof vests for their K-9 partners donated by the Animal Rescue League of El Paso and presented during the press conference.
