More Backpacks, School Supplies Donated to LCPS
LAS CRUCES – The Las Cruces RodRunners Car Club has donated 38 backpacks filled with school supplies for needy students who will attend LCPS high schools this Fall.
The backpacks were delivered to Superintendent Stan Rounds and LCPS staff at the school district Administration Building by car club members in their prize automobiles August 8, 2011.
Brett Arthur Johnson, manager of the Las Cruces Walgreens at 3100 N. Main St., also attended the backpack delivery. His store donated some of the school supplies used in the backpacks.
RodRunners President Pat Klohr said the car club, which has been around for 27 years, is donating about $8,500 this year to local non-profit organizations, including LCPS. The club’s signature event is the annual “Wheels of Dreams,” car show, which raises thousands of dollars to benefit the youth of southern New Mexico. The next Wheels of Dreams car show will be held March 31, 2012.
“We are so grateful to Las Cruces RodRunners and Walgreens for the support of our students and this wonderful partnership,” said Cervantes.
