The U.S. government is flying Mexican deportees home on the taxpayers dime. A plane departed Tuesday from El Paso International Airport, bound for Mexico City with 131 people on board. The flight was the first of dozens to follow over the next two months and is part of a two month experiment aimed at relieving border cities overwhelmed by large numbers of people who were ordered to leave the U.S. A similar experiment was conducted in Tucson from 2004 to 2011, but those flights were voluntary and were an alternative to possible jail time. The flights from El Paso are mandatory.
