LAS CRUCES- A SWAT team was called to a house in Las Cruces yesterday after a man barricaded himself in a house when police tried to serve a warrant for child abuse.

Reyes Francisco Perez, 26, was arrested on the warrant and charged with one count of intentional child abuse.

Police say on Wednesday, Perez was injecting himself with a needle when he noticed that his 9-year-old daughter was watching. Perez became irate and started hitting the girl causing visible bruising.

Police learned of the incident Thursday and an arrest warrant was issued for Perez. When officers attempted to serve the warrant, Perez locked himself in his house and refused come out.

The Las Cruces Police Department’s SWAT team was called into action and closed parts of nearby busy roads. After about an hour, Perez came out and was placed under arrest.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported during the SWAT callout.
