Man Gets Stuck in East El Paso Drainage Ditch
EL PASO- A bizarre scene in East El Paso this morning as firefighters had to rescue a man who somehow got stuck in a storm drain.
Neighbors in the1800 block of Lyman Duttan heard the man screaming for help around midnight so they called 9-1-1. Firefighters showed up and climbed into the drain to get him.
The opening wasn't very big, only about two feet by two feet. It took a couple of hours to pull the man out. Firefighters had to make sure there was no one else in the drain with him
"We had a gentleman go inside a confined space which was a drainage ditch from a street to a reservoir. He got trapped in there. Initially, neighbors heard him call out for help. The requested PD. PD arrived, they called us out to assist them to extricate him from the area," says Arturo Garza with the El Paso Fire Department.
Firefighters say the man was dehydrated and disoriented when they pulled him out. He was taken to Del Sol Medical Center. Still no word as to why the man decided to climb into the ditch in the first place.
