LAS CRUCES- The man arrested for firing shots after his wife shoplifted items from an area grocery store is now charged with breaking into and burglarizing a marked police unit in September.
Enrique “Kiki” Resendiz, 24, now faces the additional charges of burglary of a vehicle and larceny. Resendiz remains incarcerated at the Dona Ana County Detention Center. On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Resendiz was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His wife, 19-year-old Kegan Resendiz, was charged with shoplifting.
At around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, Las Cruces Police were called to the Albertson’s grocery store at 2501 N. Main St. after a store manager attempted to stop Kegan Resendiz who was believed to have left the store without paying for merchandise.
As the manager attempted to apprehend the woman in the parking lot, Enrique Resendiz drove up and began firing gunshots from a white Toyota Camry. The manager struggled to keep hold of the woman but let go when the gunshots were fired.
No one was struck by the gunfire and no injuries were reported.
Police tracked down the couple using information about the car involved. While searching Rezendiz’ home, police found police patches and citation book, which were stolen from a robbery of a marked police unit in September.
