LCPS Principal Receives Prestigious Awards
LAS CRUCES – Loma Heights Elementary School Principal Rodolfo “Rudy” Leos has received two prestigious education awards.
Leos has been named the Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces 2011 educator of the year and the LCPS Bilingual/Multicultural/Migrant Education Department’s 2011 bilingual administrator of the year.
Leos, who has been principal at Loma Heights Elementary for more than nine years, has worked as a teacher and administrator for the past 23 years in the Gadsden, Canutillo, Hatch and Las Cruces school districts. A native of Spain with roots in the Mesilla Valley, Leos is also an alumnus of New Mexico State University.
Leos was nominated for LCPS’ bilingual administrator of the year by staff members at his school and had letters of support from parents, teachers and students. He previously received the award for the 2003-04 school year. In 2004-05, he was selected as the Bilingual Administrator of the year by the New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education.
During Leos’ time at Loma Heights Elementary, the school has achieved very impressive assessment scores from New Mexico Standards Based Assessment.
Leos joined LCPS in 2000 as the bilingual coordinator, assisting in the promotion and development of dual language programs at elementary schools. After two years, he was named principal of Loma Heights Elementary.
