Las Cruces Mayor Honored by White House for Strengthening Local Economy
Washington, D.C. – Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima will be honored at the White House today for his work strengthening the local economy and creating jobs in the Borderland.
The White House Champions of Change initiative profiles Americans from all walks of life who are helping the country rise to the challenges of the 21st century. These Champions of Change are doing extraordinary things in their communities to innovate, educate and build a better America.
Mayor Miyagishima is being recognized for his work with his counterparts from the US-Mexico Border Mayors’ Alliance to promote cross-border trade and economic development in the Southwest. He has also supported the efforts of the Las Cruces Hispano Chamber of Commerce and other business leaders to foster a vibrant local economy and the creation of jobs in the area.
Mayor Miyagishima will meet with White House officials to discuss his work and identify ways the federal government might be able to help him expand his efforts.
