Las Cruces Man Arrested For Drugs, Taking Police Taser
LAS CRUCES- A Dona Ana County man was arrested Wednesday for a handful of charges all starting with one traffic stop.
Jose Hector Avila-Garciduenas, 30, is charged with felony counts of battery on a peace officer, disarming a peace officer and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Avila also is charged with two misdemeanor counts of concealing identity, and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
Avila-Garciduenas and two passengers were pulled over by Las Cruces police and were asked to exit the vehicle when Avila-Garciduenas was unable to show any form of identification.
As backup units began to arrive, to help identify the occupants, Avila attempted to flee by running from officers. After a short foot pursuit officers caught up with Avila who struck one officer and disarmed another by momentarily taking her Taser. The officer quickly re-took possession of the Taser.
After Avila was secured in hand restraints officers found in his possession multiple baggies which were subsequently determined to contain cocaine and methamphetamine.
