Las Cruces Elem. Students Assist "Be a Santa to a Senior"
LAS CRUCES – Students at East Picacho Elementary School colored, painted and glittered more than 500 bags for Home Instead Senior Care’s Be a Santa to a Senior program in Las Cruces.
Be a Santa to a Senior, now in its sixth year in Las Cruces, “brings together local non-profit groups, city and county agencies, long-term care facilities and home health companies to provide gifts and companionship to seniors who otherwise might not receive either this holiday season,” said Jamie Baker, assistant director of Secondary Education for the New Mexico State University Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
The student-made bags will be used to wrap gifts for participating seniors. The bags will be delivered December 22 and 23.
“Our students really enjoyed this service learning activity,” said East Picacho Elementary Principal Shelley Harris. “This was a wonderful way for all of our students to give back to the community during the holiday season,” she said.
