LOS ANGELES- A whirlwind courtship, a high profile wedding, and now, rumors of an impending divorce are no longer rumors.
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian filed for divorce today from her husband, NBA player, Kris Humphries.
Mark Barger has details.
What started in a made for TV, fairytale fashion in August met the harsh Halloween reality of court documents this morning. Reality TV star Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from husband Kris Humphries, citing irreconcilable differences. That's 72 days after their $10 million wedding.
"A lot of people are skeptical about Kim, a lot of people are skeptical about the entire family. And I think this quickie wedding and even quicker divorce isn't going to help that," says Justin Ravitz, Senior Online Editor, US Weekly.
Kardashian is one of reality TV’s highest paid stars. She also has numerous product endorsements, including a perfume line she was promoting earlier this month in Dubai, where she spoke in positive terms about her marriage.
“I really want to spend a little time with Kris before we start having kids, so, I say give us like a year before we try to have kids," said Kim.
But US Weekly reports Humphries' absence from that Dubai trip increased already existing tensions between Humphries and Kardashian, as well as her family, who star in a reality TV series, "Keeping up with the Kardashians".
"It wasn't just the marriage between Kris and Kim Kardashian that failed, it was the marriage between Kris and Kardashian family that failed," says Ravitz.
Kim Kardashian released a statement saying the divorce filing "Was not an easy decision. I hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned."
The divorce filing in Los Angeles County Superior Court indicates the couple has a prenuptial agreement that will dictate how they divide up their respective assets.
