The hot summer is causing the wheels on electric meters to spin faster and faster. But one small community near Sunland Park, New Mexico is keeping cool without higher bills.
The community of Tierra Madre was started 14 years ago by three nuns who wanted to create a community of people who could be in charge of their own community, have affordable housing, and live in an environmentally harmonious way. Today there are 35 families living there.
Each house is of straw bale construction and built to take advantage of the position of the sun. To learn more about Tierra Madre, call 575-589-4412.
