EL PASO- A fire left a family in east El Paso without power.
Investigators say some leaves caught fire on the porch of a home on Osage Street around 9:00 a.m. this morning. One person was inside the home when neighbors called for help. While no one was hurt, the flames did spread to an electrical pole, which caused a transformer to explode.
"It was very close to the porch. And the fire just went straight up to the pole and that's what caused the damage to the transformer and there was an explosion heard by neighbors and that's what the explosion was,” says Emir Ortiz, El Paso Fire Battalion Chief.
The investigation is ongoing but an electrical problem is suspected of causing the fire. Power was restored to the area in about an hour.
