EL PASO- El Paso is about to open its own hospice-only impatient facility.
This Thursday, June 30th, Hospice El Paso will host an open house/grand opening for the city’s first ever hospice only in-patient facility. The 16-bed unit named “The Center for Compassionate Care – West” is located at 1575 Belvidere on the grounds of “The Monte Vista at Coronado” and will be staffed around the clock by a team of experienced Hospice El Paso medical professionals who specialize in acute hospice care.
The team is comprised of nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social workers, chaplains and volunteers whose mission is to provide 24 hour licensed nursing supervision and care for symptoms that can not be managed in the patient’s residence. Family members are encouraged to stay with the patient as desired; there are no limited visiting privileges. The expectation is that the patient will be able to return home to familiar surroundings once the situation has stabilized.
“This facility has been the dream and goal of Hospice El Paso since its inception some 31 years ago,” stated Linda Black, Executive Director of Hospice El Paso. “We have the city’s oldest and largest not-for-profit hospice and we’re very proud to provide the first stand alone in-patient unit.
The Center will be supervised by Marybeth Gonzales, RN, Director of Clinical Services, who has succeeded in assembling the CCC team. “It is overwhelming the number of top flight hospice specialists who wanted to be a part of the first in-patient team. It has been a rewarding delight for me to assemble such a high-quality, caring team,” said Gonzales.
The in-house design work was the vision of Tina-Marie Hew Len, Hospice El Paso Director of Admissions and Marketing, and offers all the amenities of a cozy, home-like atmosphere in a warm setting where pets are also invited to drop by for a visit. Each room is different and uniquely decorated, and there is a family and break room along with the ‘Sunset’ outdoor patio garden retreat generously created by “150 Sunset” (formerly Nash Gardens).
Hospice El Paso operates under the guidance of a 25-member volunteer board of directors comprised exclusively of El Pasoans The open house and tours will open to the public on Thursday, June 30th from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. For further information, call Hospice El Paso at 915-532-5699.
