LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces Police and New Mexico State Police are investigating two separate crashes on or near U.S. Highway 70.

One of the crashes, a truck that rolled over onto eastbound Bataan Memorial East, has forced the closure of eastbound U.S. 70 and its frontage road, Bataan Memorial East. Both directions of Highway 70, between Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and Rinconada Boulevard, are closed to traffic at this time.

Motorists who are traveling eastbound are encouraged to take Northrise Boulevard to Sonoma Ranch where they can enter Highway 70 east. Motorists traveling westbound on Highway 70 can take Bataan Memorial West and enter U.S. 70 at Rinconada Blvd.

My normally 20 minute commute home took over an hour. Considering the road infrastructure in this area, I have come to expect this when accidents occur - no big deal.

What I do not expect however is the lack of officers assisting with traffic flow in nearby intersections. I was nearly in a pretty bad wreck thanks to folks who don't know how to handle a 4 way stop at the intersection of Northrise and Sonoma Ranch. There should have been police at this busy intersection directing traffic!
