Garbage and Recycling Tips for Severe Weather

EL PASO – The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department is reminding residents not to place their blue bins out for collection if the temperatures dip below 20 degrees.

The winter weather in the region is expected to drop temperatures below 20 degrees overnight. When temperatures fall below 20 degrees the diesel fuel in the collection trucks tends to gel, preventing the trucks from operating properly.

During these types of weather events, Environmental Services must concentrate its operations solely on collecting household garbage. Household garbage should always be taken to the curb on your collection day.

The Environmental Services will not collect recyclable from blue bins if the weather dips below 20 degrees. The department recommends that residents wait until their next regularly scheduled pick-up day to place their blue recycling bins out for collection.
