EL PASO- In an update to the story we brought you this weekend, Fort Bliss has now released the name of a soldier killed by a train on Saturday.

Fort Bliss officials say  Soldier Spec., Jesse Gilbert, 23, was unaware of the oncoming train when he was struck. Police say Gilbert was walking on the train tracks when the incident occurred. According to reports, the conductor blew the horn and started applying the breaks; that's when the man was struck and killed by the train.

Gilbert joined the U.S. Army in March 2009, in Centerville, Tenn. He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. His awards include the National Defense Service Ribbon.

Fort Bliss's Maj Gen Dana J.H. Pittard released the following statement:

"We are saddened by the loss of one of our Team Bliss Soldiers; especially under these tragic and seemingly preventable circumstances. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and his fellow Soldiers."

He is survived by his wife and child.
