A family is picking up the pieces today after flames destroyed their apartment in West El Paso. Boards went up at the Warren Terrace apartment, where a fire started yesterday shortly after 5:00 p.m. It took several fire crews to put the flames. Investigators say a lamp overheated causing the fire to break out.

Things are especially tough on this family because the mother lost her job at the beginning of the month and she returned from a job interview in another city to find her home gone.

"It's just, that's not my place," said Jennifer McConnell. "This can't be happening. This didn't happen. God will get me through this."

Two snakes died in the fire.  Fire investigators say the blaze caused $20,000 worth of damages.
