EL PASO- He has spent the last 17 years in prison and for more than 17 years he's said he deserves a new trial.
The hearing for Daniel Villegas continues.

In 1993 when he was 16 years-old Daniel Villegas confessed to shooting and killing two El Pasoans.... But he says detective Al Marquez forced him to confess to a crime he didn't commit.

In court, Jesse Hernandez testified he was with the two teenagers killed that night. He says the same detective almost scared him into confessing to the same murders.

Daniel's cousin, David Rangel, says the two were like brothers and always joked around.

David says that Daniel told him on the phone that he killed the two teens, but that he knew it was a joke.

David says Detective Marquez threatened him and also accused him of being the killer.

After hours of being interrogated, David says he told the detective about the phone conversation with his cousin Daniel.

David says Detective Marquez forced him to re-write his original statement because the detective had an issue with saying Daniel used a sawed off shot gun. Shell casings found at the crime scene came from a .22-caliber gun.

David says he didn't sign the statement voluntarily and the detective told him if he told anyone what happened, he'd get charged with a crime.
