EL PASO - The Irvin High School football team was fighting for their playoff lives Friday night against Jefferson when a real fight broke out.
Our reporter, Phillip Mena was at the game, covering it for NC9 Overtime and managed to get ejected from the game himself.
Today, EPISD released a statement about Friday's brawl at Irvin Memorial Stadium.

Mr Mena you were unprofessional and a disgrace to the media..get over it already the cops told you to leave just leave..are you trying to be like Darrin Hunt?
on Friday after the game. This was barely released yesterday, you all could have AT LEAST done some more research on the "Footbrawl," don't you think?
First of all, where were the Police when the fight broke out? They were busy kicking the media crew off of the field instead of attempting to break up the fight. I was at the football game and only saw coaches and team mates from both schools attempting to stop the fight. Of course Xavior is going to claim that the other team mate hit him first, you should all do a thorough investigation of the situation before you begin to defame Jorge Perez's name. Secondly, you all should have reported this
first of all if your going to mention a players name make sure you spell his name correctly you idiot his name is Xavier moron and that perez guy is nothin but a female dog! along with all the other jefferson players and coaches!
shut up and stop blaming the cops for everything..everything was under control cop hater
Irvin is coming across as being victims when there was a similar incident at a Irvin/Bowie football game as well. I was at the Irvin/Jefferson game last friday and witnessed the beginning of the incident. A player from Irvin was pulling the face mask of a Jefferson player and jerking his head for a good while and no flag was called. That is when the situation escalated. I would appreciate it if your reporter would do a further investigation and get both sides to the story. Thank you
