EL PASO- The EPISD has run into some major problems recently.

Just two weeks ago, a handful of students who graduated from Burges High School were told they needed to pass another class in order to get the diploma. Some students were already headed off to college and the school said they would be working individually students to help them complete the missing course.

Then last week, El Paso High School Principal Luis Liano was reassigned to another school but the district has not decided where to place him. Hundreds of students walked out of the high school in May claiming Principal Liano was favoring sports over academics.Liano was the principal for two years at El Paso High.

Last November, students at Bowie High School told NewsChannel 9 they were pressured to drop out of school. Former senator Eliot Shapleigh told us those students were not making good grades and the school pressured them to quit so that the schools average TAKS test score would improve.

And last month, after eight years EPISD board member Lisa Colquitt-Munoz resigned.  She represented the El Paso High and Bowie High School feeder patterns for the district.  EPISD has not filled the empty seat.
