El Pasoans To Elect New State Senator In 16 Years In Tuesday's Election
For the first time in 16 years, El Paso will elect a new State Senator. Republican Dan Chavez is facing Jose Rodriguez in the District 29 race. The seat is vacated by Eliot Shapleigh.
Rodriguez is a former El Paso County Attorney and agrees with Chavez that job creation is the number one priority. But they disagree over who's more qualified to make those jobs happen.
"He says he can create jobs because he has hired a few people for his own business. And that's what he touts as his accomplishment. I don't see that as what this community needs," said Rodriguez.
"My opponent's a lawyer. I would definitely not tango with him in a court of law, but if he comes to my industry, which is business, I think that's where I have the upper hand," said Chavez.
