El Paso Police Sign Up Drivers For Anti-Theft Program

POSTED: Friday, July 9, 2010 - 9:10pm

UPDATED: Friday, July 9, 2010 - 10:40pm

The El Paso Police Department wants to keep auto thefts down in the city. Today, officers were at Costco signing up drivers for HEAT or Help End Auto Theft program. This allows police officers to pull over drivers from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., if they have a sticker on the windshield of their car.

"It makes your vehicle somewhat less valuable for a thief because it makes it more difficult to get rid of the parts to maybe a shop or individuals," said Stephen Plummer with the El Paso Police Department.

Registration is free of charge. The police department will be signing up driver again Saturday at Fort Bliss.
