El Paso Police Department To Launch New Call Program
Starting November 3rd, El Pasoans can report minor crimes from the comfort of their homes! Police are launching a program called "Alternative Reporting," which will allow people to call in to a police operator, instead of having a police officer take the report.
When you call the police to report a crime, the operator will ask you questions to determine whether an officer needs to see you. For crimes police consider minor, like theft, vandalism, or a child-custody issue, the operator will take your report over the phone. Police will then review your filed report and a detective will contact you if as follow up is necessary.
Police believe the Alternative Reporting program will allow more officers to stay out on patrol to protect us from more serious crimes.
Alternative Reporting will be taking calls from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday and from 8am to 5pm on Saturdays. If you'd like to file a police report, the number to call is 915-832-4436.
