EL PASO — The year-round cops helping kids drive continued today, with a day-long fundraiser at the Helen of Troy retail warehouse. The company donated 10% of all sales to the El Paso Police officers union, which turns the money around to help kids from low income families buy what they need.
"So all the money that comes in during this event and other events like it during the year goes toward needy kids in the community. We take 200 kids and basically spend $200 a piece for a back to school spree or a Christmas spree, whatever event we're doing at that particular time," said Ron Martin with the El Paso PD.
200 kids times $200 takes $40,000 to pull off. The police union does it twice a year and tells us they'll do it more often if the community responds.
