El Dorado High Goes Purple For Anti-Bullying Campaign

El Dorado High Goes Purple For Anti-Bullying Campaign
Thursday, August 25, 2011 - 2:57pm

EL PASO- Students and staff of El Dorado High are showing their support of a new, district-wide anti-bullying campaign by wearing purple to tonight's game.

The first 500 people to walk in for tonight’s game wearing purple will receive an anti-bullying bracelet.

The program goals are to: reduce existing bullying problems among students; prevent the development of new bullying problems; and, achieve better peer relations at school.

The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program was launched in the District during the 2010-11 school year and is credited for positive cultural changes at the campuses which piloted the program. It was expanded to all District schools at the start of this school year. At the District level, trained mentors work with schools and parents to educate and support anti-bullying efforts. As a resource for parents and students alike, the District has launched the Stop Bullying! Web page, www.sisd.net/stopbullying. Among the information provided, the site includes a definition of bullying, mentor contact information, school anti-bullying rules, and an anonymous venue for students to report bullying.
