EL PASO- The driver of the vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-10 which led to a 5-car wreck has now been identified.

Police say Jose Vasquez, 45, of Anthony NM collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Mesa and Desert Blvd then, in an attempt to flee, he drove onto and I-10 exit off-ramp in the wrong direction. At that time, he collided with another vehicle and struck a traffic sign, but continued to drive east in the westbound lanes.

As he was driving in the wrong direction on I-10, he clipped a car, causing it to spin across three lanes of traffic, then struck a Dodge Charger head-on. Another car then collided with Vasquez' truck.

Vasquez and the driver of the Charger died at the scene.  Others were transported to hospitals.

Investigators suspect alcohol on the part of Vasquez as a contributing factor in this fatal collision. Police are trying to notify the next of kin of the driver of the Charger before releasing his name.

I agree with you "MINIME

This is so sad im am outraged that innocent people were injured and one dead. I feel for the families and im sorry!!!! People are stupid you DO NOT DRIVE WHEN YOU DRINK I DONT CARE IF YOU HAVE HAD ONLY 1 BEER OR 1 SHOT!!!! SOMETIMES IT TAKES ONLY ONE TO RUIN A LIFE!!!! I will pray for the ones in the hospital and for the families of the ones who lost there life.

I know. Had my boyfriend been 2 minutes ahead of himself he would have been part of the crash. I hope everything works out well for the victims. That selfish driver did so much damage on account of trying to face the reprucutions of his action.

This is become a too familiar trend here in El Paso. One has to be on the lookout all the time now for intoxicated and careless drivers. The street have become a danger for motorist. We hear of a death involving a driver almost every week. There needs to be more supervision or we will continue to have more deaths.

In the garden of Eden, God spoke to Adam and communicated in clear and direct ways, not in abstract concepts. God speaks to us today in the same way. In some ways, this is the most important meaning to be found in any tragedy. Tragic events demonstrate much of their meaning in the way we react to them. C.S. Lewis said, “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains.

It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” This does not mean that God causes tragedy, but that He uses our reaction to tragedy to speak to us. Tragic events remind us not only that we live in an imperfect and fallen world, but that there is a God who loves us and wants something better for us than the world has to offer.

While we understand that God has sovereign control over all things, it is important to remember that God is not the source of tragedy. The vast majority of human suffering is caused by sin, all too often the sin of other people. For instance, a mass murder is the fault of the murderer disobeying the moral law of God (Exodus 20:13; Romans 1:18-21). When we look to find meaning in such an event, we have to understand why this world is the way it is.

The hardship of this world was originally caused by mankind’s sin (Romans 5:12), which is always a matter of choice (1 Corinthians 10:13). While God is perfectly capable of stopping tragedies before they begin, sometimes He chooses not to. While we may not know why, we do know that He is perfect, just, and holy, and so is His will. Also, the suffering we experience in this world does three things. It leads us to seek God, it develops our spiritual strength, and it increases our desire for heaven

this was a suicide-murder!

this is the worst...and its happening to often...our police department needs to put some DWI check points

You don't need alcohol to have a good time...Is a good buzz worth dying for?

Sad,sad, story. Driving impaired, poor judgement, 2 are dead, others injured. Why?
