POSTED: Friday, April 10, 2009 - 7:29am

UPDATED: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - 3:23pm

Sheriff's investigators are looking into whether a dog in Westway was abused and neglected. The people who take care of her now have no doubt she was. Linn Anderson is fostering Shelly, a two year old pit bull mix. An animal control officer removed Shelly and another dog from the same home in Westway on March 28. The officer said there was no food or water. Shelly weighed 32 pounds, she should weigh about 65. She was also suffering from a tick borne disease called erlichia.
On Wednesday a Justice of the Peace ordered the owner to give up the dogs and pay for their medical care.
Depending on what sheriff's investigators find prosecutors could charge him with criminal animal abuse and neglect. The other dog removed with Shelly is a 7 month old boxer mix. The rambunctious young boxer is ready for adoption now. Shelly will be ready for a new home in about two months.
