Less than an hour from now, “Disney on Ice - Toy Story 3" is kicking off its first of nine shows.
Crew members spent the day setting up at El Paso County Coliseum. We caught up with one of the performers about what you can expect from this highly popular production.
Dancing, singing and skating in their colorful costumes, there's plenty of entertainment in store at Disney on Ice - Toy Story 3, taking place from now through Sunday.
“This show actually recaps toy story the first movie, the second movie and then the third movie as well,” says Kylee Nielsen, Disney on Ice performer.
Kylee Nielsen plays four different characters in the show, including the rag doll in Woody's Roundup and Barbie's workout. The former competitive ice skater says the show brings back all of the characters.
“Mr. And Mrs. Potato Head, Ham, who's a pig, and Rex, who's a dinosaur, and Woody and Jesse and Buzz Lightyear. We bring them all together and kind of bring the story together as it goes,” says Kylee.
In total it takes up to 14 semis, four tour buses and nearly 40 cast members to bring Toy Story 3 to life on the ice. And because they're always together, Kylee says the cast, just like the characters in Toy Story 3, are one big happy family.
“The show's really about friendship and family and staying together and it portrays us as a family too, touring together. We become a family on tour,” says Kylee.
Cast members rehearse for two months and then spend the next 36 weeks on the road traveling from city to city. Kylee says one of the favorite parts of the show for crewmembers is when they get the kids involved.
“When we get right up next to them on the ice is when the kids react the most. It's when we get most of their facial expressions. We can actually communicate with them about dancing and they get involved, that's what they love the most,” says Kylee.
The show also serves as a reminder about friendship and being there for each other.
“The characters are funny and they get along with each other and I think it's a really great movie and it's a great example for families and friends,” says Kylee.
“Disney on Ice - Toy Story 3" kicks off at 7:30 tonight at El Paso County Coliseum.
Tomorrow's 7:30 showing will be in Spanish. There are 5 other shows planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets start at $15. For schedule and ticket prices click here.
