EL PASO — Crossfit's two affiliates here in El Paso host the third Annual Southwest Fitness Throwdown at the the EP Dream Arena & El Paso Patriots Soccer field. A two day indoor and outdoor event filled with thrilling Crossfit competition, and food and kid's games supports the Children's Miracle Network and El Paso Children's Hospital. More than 270 athletes from the greater El Paso Region, Las Cruces, Albuquerque, Denver, Chihuahua, Phoenix, and Lubbock will be traveling to the Sun City to compete.Crossfit, a popular workout and what some consider a sport of its own, hosted a weekend of fun and competitive work outs here in the borderland.
" Crossfit's a functional fitness based event. It encompasses a lot of different sports. Including gymnastics, power lifting, Olympic lifting and endurance training,” said James Nunn, a trainer with Crossfit's original location in El Paso.
A participant said the event reminds him to live a healthy lifestyle.
"That's the best thing about this sport. A guy like me one day can excel and then the next day, the guy that I beat is gonna beat me," said Eric Garcia, a Crossfit competitor.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the event each day. Again Faster Equipment's Farage games series also hosted the event. It continues Sunday from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m.
