EL PASO - The criminal investigation into a former El Paso police officer accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student may have hit a roadblock.

Chief Greg Allen fired Sergeant Miguel Lucero earlier this month.

The decision was based on an administrative investigation that determined Lucero did in fact engage in an inappropriate relationship with the female student. It allegedly happened while Lucero was working as an off duty officer at Riverside High School.

But the criminal investigation doesn't appear to be moving as quickly.

"To be honest, the criminal investigation is weak. It's weaker than the administrative investigation for the simple fact that we aren't getting cooperation from the complaining parties as we expected," said Chief Allen.

The criminal investigation is still ongoing and Lucero has not been charged with a crime.

Retaliation? This whole thing was fishy right off the bat. A minor (whether the boyfriend or not) complains and the police pull the trigger and fire the officer? Sounds more like the EPPD jumped the gun than retaliation. "We aren't getting the cooperation...", sure Allen, shift the blame since that always works.

Sounds like there may be retaliation going on. The EPPD is well known for it. Chief Allen needs to stop making excuses and get to the bottom of it. What this officer did was immoral, unethical, and illegal. He needs to be held accountable just as any of us would be.
