El Paso Police are trying to get tough with criminal gangs. They're using a court injunction to stop gang members from congregating. The county attorney and police chief announced the plan at Richardson Park in Northeast El Paso.

The injunction includes 27 members of the "Bloods" gang and prohibits them from certain activities in the Devil's Triangle area as well as the area around Andress High School.

There are about 32 different activities the injunction prohibits: they can't ride together, congregate in parks, use cells phones or pagers and can't use gang signs.

County Attorney Rodrigurez says there is no constitutional right to associate for the purpose of engaging in criminal activity. The 27 members of the bloods is set have a court date on April first where they'll have the chance to argue against the injunction.

You may remember an injunction was used some years back to quell trouble with the Barrio Aztecas gang in the Segundo Barrio. According to the county attorney, overall crime there dropped 12%.
