EL PASO - Illegal dumping is an issue in El Paso and the City Council discussed it Tuesday morning. In many districts, people randomly dispose of things like mattresses, tires and other large items. Sometimes the dump site is in the desert, sometimes they're just leaving these things in the streets.

While many city leaders are concerned about the problem, including District 4 Representative Carl Robinson, who showed a slideshow of dump sites all over the city. City Representative Eddie Holguin says the disposal fees are too high, and not working. At the meeting, he said "by making it difficult for people to dispose if it? You're telling me that it can't be done for whatever reason? I don't understand...trash is trash. Either you're going to pick it up or you're not. You're doing nothing to take it in when people are trying to dispose of it correctly."

In the meantime, the city is planning a campaign urging citizens to report the culprits and have law enforcement pursue dumping reports more aggressively.

I have seen in Austin. Tx that on one day of the month citizen can put their discarded items at curbside to be pickup. City management should look into this
